"HIRAM" is an 1981, C&C 40-2 and is the last of this model line before being relaunched as the 41.
Quite a unique boat, due to its racing pedigree from the IOR era, fortunately without the hull contortions that the rule promoted. The 40-2 and later the 41 became very popular as fast blue water cruising boats and also competitive fun in the racing circuits. These are tremendously well put together boats, over engineered in some respects yet paying attention to ensuring that they are quick, yet easy to maintain and operate.
This particular boat has had some fairly substantial work carried out under the current ownership, and went as far as un-stepping the mast, dropping the keel, replacing encapsulated wood stringers with synthetic material, re-varnishing the whole interior, rod rigging inspection, replacement of all running rigging, some wiring upgrades to accommodate LED lighting at the mast head and a refresh of the battery charging circuit with the installation of a smart Balmar alternator with a 1100W Vanner charger/inverter. Another addition was upgrading to modern Raymarine navigational and sailing electronics.
The boat was also fitted with a Vetus 42Hp diesel engine in 2013, currently with just 800 odd hours and equipped with a Gori folding propeller through a PSS dripless seal.
Her hull has been Awlgripped in the recent past, though it may use some minor attention to deal with the usual scuffing.
The sail inventory is fairly extensive, with 2 mainsails, 6 headsails (1 lite, 1 med, 2, 3, 4, reacher) and an assortment of downwind spinnakers.
Overall, this is quite a boat. She sails like a thoroughbred, and will reward someone who can appreciate this.
The current owners have done their part and are keen she moves on to her next owner.
She is winterized and wrapped, on the hard, but don't hesitate to reach out for further information or to schedule a viewing.
