This Block Island 40 is located in Tracy's Landing (35 min south of Annapolis). The model was originally designed by Bill Tripp in 1957 and a limited run was built in Rhode Island in the late 1950's and early 1960s. Indigo is the third generation of the BI 40's. Eric Woods of Migrator Yachts obtained the molds in the early 1980's, re-tooled them and built the first hull of this generation in 1985. He updated the design using the same hull shape, but used modern materials to improve strength and cruising comfort. He modernized the centerboard design, added ballast and updated the sail plan, maintaining the yawl rig.
The Block Island 40 is designed for cruising, with plentiful storage, comfortable accommodations, large hatches and many opening ports as well as wide side decks, high toe rails, easy access to winches & travellers from the helm and a safe, comfortable cockpit.

Accommodations
The interior woodwork is teak over marine plywood with mahogany inside the cabinets. The cabin sole is teak plank and the headliner is foam-backed vinyl with teak trim and teak handholds. Portlights are Bomar, hatches are Goiot.
The U-shaped galley is to port of the companionway, it has a deep, double S/S sink and propane stove, 7.5 cf ice box that has been converted to a fridge and plenty of counter space. To starboard is the comfortable Nav Station, with full-sized chart table with storage below, cushioned seat with easy access to instruments and a hanging/wet locker behind it.
The salon consists of u-shaped dinette to port with table that hinges open to reach the starboard settee. The table can be lowered to form a double berth. There is storage below & behind the seats, with bookshelves and storage cabinets above. The starboard settee is a straight settee, with storage below and behind the seats as well as storage cabinets above. It is situated between the nav station and a storage unit (forward), which consists of drawers, with a countertop and a hanging locker.
The head is forward of the dinette and can be accessed through a door opposite the salon storage or from the V-berth. The V-berth bunk is 6'9". Storage in the V-berth consists of a bureau with drawers and hanging locker with louvered doors.
