The 25-foot Yamaha 252SD is clearly designed with socializing and watersports in mind. As one of the brand’s premium models, the jet boat comes equipped with updated technology, particularly its DRiVE X control system allowing exceptional maneuverability. In addition, it’s got a luxury-level user-friendly layout, and a high output twin-engine setup that gives the boat solid performance without being overwhelming. Whether you’re taking the kids tubing, enjoying an afternoon cruise with friends, or just relaxing at anchor, the 252SD is built to support a wide range of activities on the water. Key Features of the Yamaha 252SD
At first glance, the Yamaha 252SD looks like a family-friendly sport boat, and that’s exactly what it is. The 12-passenger seating layout has plenty of built-in storage, even in the spaces that convert from high-speed comfort and safety to center-facing socialization. One standout upgrade is the Chil-Cool technology built into the upholstery. It keeps seats cooler on hot days, making it more comfortable for passengers boarding barefoot or in swimsuits.
The bow area can be configured as forward-facing loungers, a full sunpad, or three separate seats. The cockpit area features a wraparound U-shaped bench, a swiveling captain’s chair, and a companion seat. Grab rails, cup holders, and speakers are built into nearly every zone of the boat, so no matter where you’re sitting, you’re part of the action. Beneath the port console is a small storage compartment, large enough to double as a changing room or a day head if fitted.
A highlight for many will be Yamaha’s rear-facing swim platform. It’s spacious, well-designed, and purpose-built for hanging out at anchor, and it doesn’t interfere with the boat’s 19” draft. It includes rear-facing seating (not for use while engines are running), cup holders, stereo controls, a fresh water shower, and underwater seating that doubles as a mounting area for a table. And since the 252SD is jet-powered, there's no exposed propeller to worry about—especially useful when swimming or launching water toys.
The helm is where the 252SD starts to show off Yamaha’s tech-forward approach. The centerpiece is the floating Connext touchscreen system, which offers engine data, GPS navigation, and a full-screen Simrad chartplotter. With throttles on the right, below tactile buttons for key systems, the DRiVE X steering wheel takes center stage. This technology simplifies low-speed handling, docking, and tight maneuvering by placing controls directly on the steering wheel. The system includes directional paddles, pivot controls for spinning the boat in place, and even buttons that push the boat against a dock for loading and unloading without tying up.

Yamaha 252SD Performance
The Yamaha 252SD is powered by twin 200 hp 1.9L high-output marine engines. These are the largest displacement engines in a jet boat of this class and feature upgraded intakes and exhaust systems for better efficiency. BoatTest’s performance test was on a breezy day with light chop.
The boat idled at 4 mph at 1600 RPM and planed at just under 5500 RPM, reaching 22 mph—a sweet spot that also turned out to be the most efficient cruising speed. Bumping the throttle up to 6500 RPM delivered 39 mph in light chop, and the ride remained stable and comfortable for everyone aboard. Wide open throttle hits 7800 RPM, where the 252SD reached a top speed of 49 mph (42.5 knots). Even at top speed, the boat stayed planted and showed no signs of instability.
What stands out most is how responsive the 252SD is. Once you’re familiar with the Yamaha’s DRiVE X system, tight turns, docking, and low-speed movements are smooth, precise, and literally at your fingertips. Whether backing into a slip or spinning the boat 360 degrees, everything can be done using just the steering wheel paddles and buttons.
For an active day out, Yamaha’s accessories include secure wakeboard mounts.
Navigating the Used Market
Yamaha has a reputation for reliability and a dealer network that allows buyers to be confident in getting the maintenance support they need. Yamaha tweaked its engines and upgraded its steering system from DRiVE to DRiVE X with the 2024 model, marking a departure from the 2021-2023 models. In a comprehensive pre-purchase survey, prospective buyers should check for the usual signs of wear on upholstery and ensure the Connext system and jet intakes are all in good working order.
Pricing
As of mid-2025, new Yamaha 252SD models are priced around $110,000, with a few aftermarket accessories (like a grill) available to enhance social times aboard. Most used models will be over $75,000, but expect models with DRiVE X technology to be above $95,000. Prices may vary based on hours, condition, and aftermarket upgrades.
To port, a step-down compartment for stowage or privacy. To starboard, a compact but powerful helm station.
Conclusion
The Yamaha 252SD is a comfortable jet boat that makes a strong case for buyers who want a fun, social platform capable of high speeds. With its tech-assisted docking system and a layout designed for group enjoyment, this boat hits the mark for active groups and casual weekenders alike.
