Trader Motor Yachts' most successful model, the Trader 42 Signature has undergone a comprehensive reinvention and the new version has been unveiled at this year’s Southampton Boat Show.
The Trader 42 Signature is a landmark model in the 35-year history of the Trader brand and has become one of the most popular craft in her class. The semi-displacement cruiser has a hull designed by renowned naval architect Tony Castro and is CE category A rated. This exceptionally versatile passagemaker can be run by a couple and accommodate six in comfort.
With one standard Trader 42 Signature having been selected as the motor yacht of choice by the Cruising Club of Switzerland and clocking up over 40,000 miles at sea over five years, her cruising credentials are well proven. As well as being very accomplished on the open water, the 3.5m air-draft of the standard boat opens up inland waterways, including routes through France to the Mediterranean.
This year’s updates to the Trader 42 Signature are all designed to further develop the Trader 42 Signature’s appeal as a cruising yacht and a home afloat. There are over 120 enhancements to the boat on board, focused on comfort, ease of use and refinement. The development program has been informed extensive feedback from owners as well as making use of the best technologies and equipment now available.
The new glazing features enhance the Trader 42 Signature’s purposeful exterior lines while also delivering outstanding sea views from the interior - with an impressive 15ft2 of glazing in the master suite alone. Life on board also benefits from a new central heating system which provides far greater versatility then conventional methods.
Underway, a docking joystick which controls the propellers and bow thruster delivers unrivalled manoeuvering control. The system has been developed by Cummins and is matched to their latest 6.7 QSB power units, now offered in ratings up to 480hp per engine for 25 knot top speeds. Noise and refinement levels are greatly reduced by a new proprietary underwater exhaust and the Sea Torque enclosed shaft system that isolates the engines from the propeller thrust, allowing much softer engine mounts to be used. Zero speed stabilizers are also now available as an option.
The Trader 42 Signature is available with numerous internal and external options for personalization including convertible soft top, hardtop or flybridge and two or three stateroom layouts. All variants feel remarkably spacious and demonstrate the Trader “home from home” design philosophy. A comprehensive cruising inventory is specified as standard, including domestic appliances, generator and navigation suite.
Trader Motor Yachts’ CEO Toby Chappell said “Following the diverse voyages of the Trader 42 fleet has been a great pleasure and source of pride over the past few years. The new features and equipment are state of the art and will enhance the cruising experience and life afloat for our adventurous owners.”
