If you haven't already heard of BOESCH mahogany boats - you heard it here first! Markus Boesch Interview with Charles Fowler 23/1/20 @ Boot

How did you first get involved with Boesch?

I was born into the family and as a young boy worked at the marina gas station. I was also attending the boat shows from this age and when I got my boat driver’s licence, I began doing test drives and helping out at the weekends. But I only became more intimately involved after finishing my studies and then I entered the company twenty years ago as a full-time member of the team. It is interesting to note that in this centenary year of the company, I also mark my twentieth year with the company and will become fifty years of age.

What are your hopes and aspirations for the company for the next one hundred years?

The world is changing so quickly, so dramatically. Touchwood we have a strong foundation to build upon and face the future with optimism and enthusiasm.

How would you describe your job to a child?

That is what my kids keep on asking! ‘Dad, what are you doing all day’? I do a lot of things during the day. It depends a lot upon whether a client is visiting us or not. If not, I have a standard routine switching between marketing, sales, management, and finance; whatever needs to be done, whatever is on the menu for the day.

How would your staff describe your management style?

I have no idea, but I try to be inclusive and reasonable

What is the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your LinkedIn profile?

Maybe my basic knowledge of unnecessary things. Luckily my memory is very good.

Which type of people do you not like?

It doesn’t matter what walk of life a person may come from, but people who are not sincere. I am a very honest person and feel uncomfortable when I feel someone is not being straight with me.

Who is the messiest person in the office?

I am..!

What do you think about when you’re alone in the car?

I sing along to my playlist or consider the calls that I must shortly make. What I must do on reaching my destination or simply enjoy the fabulous view of the Swiss lakes and mountains as they pass by.

Under what circumstances would you hook up your recently played list to the office speakers?

Any! There is nothing to be ashamed of on my playlists…; I hope!

How lucky are you and why?

I’m very lucky because I have found a very lovely wife and have four healthy kids. And I am able to do a fantastic job where I am my own boss with people that I care about that also have a passion for boating.

What do you do with your free time?

As a family, we go hiking, boating, skiing and enjoy the Swiss countryside.

Are you a good cook?

No!

Where would you like to visit?

Canada and Alaska; I fancy seeing the harbours and villages and being amongst these communities.

A penguin walks through the door right now wearing a sombrero. What would he say and why is he here?

Howdy! Maybe he is from Mexico, drinks tequila and has come to Dusseldorf Boot to buy a Boesch boat..!

In 2020 Boesch Motorboote AG celebrate their 100th anniversary. On this occasion, boat lovers can look forward to an exceptional special edition: with a limited "Century Edition", the company heralds the next century - and once again sets an example of exclusivity.

A gold-painted V8 engine from Ilmor Marine and dashboard gauges in an exclusive design created by IWC Schaffhausen makes these special edition boats into real gems. A further display of exclusivity is within the Century Edition emblem and a numbered plaque. The boats are limited to 20 pieces and are only produced to order so that every special wish of any boat lover can be taken into account.

100 years of company history In 1920 boat builder Jakob Boesch laid the foundation stone for the family business. His passion for wooden boats is now lived in the fourth generation. Boesch has become the epitome of high-performance, classic mahogany boats.

Technical Achievements From sailing boats to motorboats and electric boats, which were already produced at the end of the 19th century, from repair work to one-off as well as serial production - Boesch can celebrate many achievements in its hundred-year history: Shortly before the beginning of the Second World War, Walter Boesch developed the first motorboats based on the principle of Boesch-Horizon-Gliding, which is still used today. Thanks to their excellent characteristics, Boesch motorboats are highly sought after by water skiers. They have been used several times at world and European championships in water skiing. In 1964, the Boesch layered construction method heralds a new era in boat building. In the 1980s Boesch produces classy, high-performance and sports-grade mahogany boats. 2005 the first Boesch Electric Powerboats with high engine performance are launched. Boat culture in perfection can be found in the flagship "970 St. Tropez" which is part of the Boesch fleet since 2009. All Boesch boats have one thing in common: they excite with classic elegance and extraordinary and sustainable construction.
