Around the World in a Year of Boat Shows

The world’s yacht shows are a Disneyland for boat lovers. Brands from across the globe come together to celebrate the yachting lifestyle, and to showcase their newest and best products. From the glitzy Monaco Yacht Show with its line-up of superyachts, to smaller regional shows, the calendar is bursting at the mainsail seams.

You’ll find everything you can imagine, and plenty that you never could have. While the yachts themselves take centre stage, you don’t need to be in the market for a new boat to appreciate the shows. Discover everything from diving to fishing, watersports to tenders. There are nautical fashion and life-saving equipment, and eye-popping demonstrations – if you’ve ever fancied a trip on a submersible, this could be your chance.

With a packed schedule that spans the world’s greatest yachting capitals, there are plenty of shows to choose from. Here we take a look at some of the biggest and best.

 

JANUARY

Where is it? The Royal Phuket Marina

How long is it? 4 days

In a nutshell: The organisers of the Thailand Yacht Show, the Asia Superyacht Rendezvous and the Phuket Boat Show have merged together to create one great show which will put Thailand on the map as the yachting hub of South East Asia.

Don’t Miss: More than 60 boats and watercraft on display, the official opening party, the luxury car parade.

Did you know? There will be an Elephant Parade of models painted by acclaimed artists and celebrities. It’s part of a global social enterprise raising awareness for elephant conservation.

Boot Düsseldorf: Boat Show and Watersports Exhibition

Boot Düsseldorf  Boat Show and Watersports Exhibition

Where is it? Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre, Dusseldorf, Germany

How long is it? 9 days

In a nutshell: This is the show for all things water, from sailing to motorboats, superyachts, travel, diving, surfing, paddling, sportfishing, and refits.

Don’t Miss: Be prepared to do some walking as you tour the 16 exhibition halls covering 18 themes areas. Newbies can get invaluable information in the Starter World to begin their boating journey.

Did you know? In 2019 the show celebrated 50 years with attendees from over 100 countries.

FEBRUARY

Miami Yacht Show

Miami Yacht Show

Where is it? In 2019 the MYS moved from Indian Creek Waterway to One Herald Plaza, Biscayne Bay and Islands Garden Deep Harbour on Watson Island for the Superyacht Miami element.

How long is it? 5 days

In a nutshell: Hundreds of new and used boats converge at this huge, sun-dappled show where you’ll find everything from superyachts to sailing dinghies, as well as gear, courses, insurance and more.

Don’t Miss: The Conservation Village which highlights ways to protect marine environments, on-water training courses for those new to boating, Sailor’s Cove for all things wind-powered.

Did you know? New water taxis will zip attendees between the exhibits and the Miami International Boat Show, which runs at the same time, meaning you can now do both shows in a day.

In a nutshell: 500 of the world’s top superyachts and leisure craft converge at this dazzling show, where marine, luxury and lifestyle brands from around the world bring their latest products.  

Don’t Miss: There’s an impressive line-up of entertainment, scuba taster sessions, free sailing and fishing trips, a retail village for the latest in hip nautical wear, and live music and drinks in The Beach social area.

Did you know? Because of the intense heat of the day in this desert region, the show opens in the afternoon and continues into the night.

In a nutshell: This is one of the big boys of the yacht show world and is now in its 34th edition. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re in the market for a superyacht or are looking for the latest in sportfishing gear.

Don’t Miss: The incredible line up of superyachts, hands-on boat handling classes, fishing clinics, and watersports demonstrations in the AquaZone.

Did you know? There is $1.2 billion worth of yachts and equipment on display at the show.

APRIL/MAY

Singapore Yacht Show

How long is it? 4 days

In a nutshell: One of Asia’s most prestigious shows is a hub of luxury brands and lifestyle, from superyachts to supercars and jewellery.

Don’t Miss: Glamorous parties and a pumping nightlife play a big part of the show. It’s Asia’s place to see and be seen, and have great fun in the process.

Did you know? There’s much more to the show than boats. Enjoy everything from supercar parades to wine, beer and gin tasting, and an international food carnival.

MYBA Charter Show

MYBA Charter Show

Where is it? OneOcean Port Vell, Barcelona, Spain

How long is it? 4 days

In a nutshell: The show is aimed at charter-yacht industry professionals, allowing them to tour the finest yachts, meet the crews and network.  

Don’t Miss: the annual Chef’s Competition, where yacht chefs and crew go head to head in a dining and service battle.

Did you know? Legendary yachts including the 82-metre Alfa Nero and the 77-metre explorer yacht Legend have participated in the past.

In a nutshell: This 30 year old show is an Australian yachting institution showcasing everything from kayaks to superyachts.

Don’t Miss: Seek out the latest in marine tech, walk the pontoons for everything from sportsboats to fishing boats, trawlers and trailers, dine in the excellent restaurants in the Marine Village, watch the live entertainment, join in the fishing tournament.

Did you know? In 30 years the show has hosted more than 10,000 exhibitors and welcomed more than 1.3million visitors making it the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

AUGUST

Where is it? Sydney International Convention Centre and Cockle Bay Marina, Darling Harbour, Sydney, Australia

How long is it? 5 days

In a nutshell: This show has been running for over 50 years and features yachts of all sizes as well as accessories, tenders, and Australia International Dive Expo.

Don’t Miss: The demonstration pools and master classes, and sipping champagne from the outdoor bar on the event deck.

Did you know?  At 27,000 square metres, you will need to walk 2.2 kiloemtres to do a whole circuit of the show, so leave the high heels at home.

In a nutshell: The top boat builders premiere their latest creations at this lively, buzzing show where there are over 600 boats on display including superyachts, sailboats and multihull yachts.

Don’t Miss: Walking the docks, seeing the latest in nautical fashion, visiting the Luxury Gallery for jewellery and custom décor.

Did you know? More people attend the Cannes Yachting Festival than the Cannes Film Festival.

In a nutshell: One the country’s largest events celebrating all things boating, this is the place to discover the hottest powerboats and sailboats, as well as trends and products to enhance the nautical lifestyle.

Don’t Miss: The busy programme of events and seminars, the in-water boating courses, the range of brand new marine lifestyle products being debuted.

Did You Know? The Newport Brokerage Boat Show at the Newport Shipyard will run at the same time as the Newport International Boat Show.

In a nutshell: Britain’s biggest show is a celebration of all things boating, from the smallest sailing dinghies and kayaks, to over 100 yacht debuts.

Did you know? There is a strong emphasis on environmental research and marine conservation at the show, and even the seafood served is from sustainable sources.

In a nutshell: This is the biggest, glitziest show of the year, with the top superyacht builders making their debuts for the world to see. There’s everything from toys to submarines and interior design.

Don’t Miss: Take a tour of the superyachts on a water taxi, visit the tender quay, see the luxury car display, or discover the latest in superyacht interior design.

Did you know? No other show has as many large yachts as Monaco. The average length is almost 50 metres and some are in excess of 75 metres.

In a nutshell: This brand new show is set to make waves, with top boat international boat builders displaying their latest designs. There’s a big emphasis on powerboats and almost 100 boats on display covering all sectors.

Don’t Miss: The Volvo Ocean 60 race boats and F1 Powerboats

Did you know? The show is organized by the same company that puts on the successful Southampton Boat Show.

Where is it? Nelson’s Dockyard Marina in English Harbour, the Falmouth Harbour Marina, and the Antigua Yacht Club Marina.

How long is it? 7 days

In a nutshell: A predominantly B2B show aimed at charter brokers, it’s still a lovely event for those looking for their latest yacht, or who simply want to soak up the boating atmosphere in beautiful Caribbean surroundings.

Don’t Miss: The Sail Day cruise around Antigua’s waters, and the chef and stewardess competitions.

Did you know? The Antigua Charter Yacht Meeting is a non-profit organization which uses proceeds to fund schools, scholarships, flood damage repairs, police stations and other community projects.
