Aquila 50 Power Cat Review, Defining a New Twin-Hull Explorer Style

The Aquila 50 Yacht Power Catamaran redefines long-range cruising with its stable twin-hull design and luxurious accommodations. This 50-foot catamaran delivers an “explorer” aesthetic with a high freeboard and expansive volume, offering yacht owners both performance and comfort. Whether you’re island-hopping or enjoying a weekend on the water, the Aquila 50 provides a smooth ride, impressive efficiency, and the living space of a floating luxury condo. Three roomy cabins (each with its own head) and a panoramic flybridge invite families and friends to venture farther in complete comfort while experiencing the superior stability catamarans are known for. Here is the first of two video reviews courtesy of Rightboat’s content partner, BoatTest.com.

Testing the Aquila 50

The Aquila 50 power catamaran demonstrates fuel efficiency and greater speed thanks in part to its unique bulbous bows that extend the hulls’ effective waterlines, reduce wave-making resistance, and increase buoyancy forward. Equipped with twin inboard diesel engines (380-hp each standard), the 50 cruises with remarkable steadiness. During BoatTest evaluations, Capt. Trip highlighted the catamaran’s level ride and minimal roll, even when slicing through choppy inlet waters—a testament to its stability.

The Aquila’s moderate planing hull achieves a top speed in the low- to mid-20-knot range, ample for a 50-foot cruising cat. More importantly, it can maintain economical cruising speeds between 15 to 18 knots. Speeds recorded by BoatTest were 19 knots at 3500rpm and 20.3 knots with 3680rpm With its twin hulls, the boat tracks straight and handles confidently in turns. Capt. Trip noted  that the 50’s agility and lack of drama underway instill trust even in less experienced operators. The electronic throttle and steering responses are smooth, and the boat’s substantial beam (over 23 feet) adds to the stable ride. All told, the Aquila 50’s performance is about delivering reliable, fuel-efficient cruising rather than breakneck speeds—perfect for those who want to voyage far and wide.

Walkthrough of the Aquila 50

The Aquila 50 has a thoughtfully designed layout that maximizes space and comfort. On the Main Deck: You’re greeted by a wide aft cockpit that flows into a galley-up saloon. A large sliding glass door and flip-up window connect the indoor and outdoor living spaces, creating one big entertainment area. The galley, aft and starboard, serves both the cockpit and interior with ease – ideal for alfresco dining. Inside the saloon, wraparound seating and a dinette share the space with a helm station forward. Thanks to the boat’s 21’6” beam, the saloon feels open and bright, helped by panoramic windows on all sides. Forward lies a full-beam master cabin—a unique layout choice enabled by the catamaran design with the explorer-height bows. This master spans the cat’s entire width, featuring a queen berth, huge hull windows, walk-in closet, plenty of storage generally, and an ensuite head with a separate shower. In the starboard hull, you’ll find a VIP cabin with en suite head. In the port hull, the guest cabin is similar to the VIP, with its own head, and an option for an adjacent laundry room.

Aquila 50 Main Cabin

Moving upward, the flybridge is a true highlight: it is expansive and built for entertainment. The helm offers commanding views with companion seating, and a large U-shaped settee and dinette invite open-air dining. A wet bar/grill can be added for convenience. Aquila even offers an optional retractable sunshade to cover the flybridge, so you can enjoy midday gatherings without direct sun. Notably, the flybridge overhang shelters the cockpit below, providing shade on hot days. Forward on the bow, the Aquila 50 features a bow lounge—wide sunpads and seating on the catamaran’s bridge deck—for sunbathing or watching sunsets at anchor.

From stern to bow, the Aquila 50 is all about blending functional design with cruising comfort: high bulwarks and railings for safety, flush decks and broad side passages for easy movement, and luxury finishes that remind you this is a premier yacht. Everywhere you look, there are social zones and smart storage solutions, making the Aquila 50 (Aquila 50 Yacht Power Catamaran) as suited for party cruising with a crowd as it is for a couple’s extended getaway.
