DESCRIPTION

Very well maintained and updated

The Amel Super Maramu is the original go anywhere do anything Bluewater mile muncher. This very clever design allows for both full crewed and short handed bluewater cruising.

This 2003 Super Maramu is a well proven example and has been well loved by her current owners.

Rascal is a AMEL Super Maramu 2000, built in 2003. The vendor has owned and lived on board for two years, and has extensively maintained, upgraded and replaced her systems so she really is ready to go wherever and whenever you wish to go. All parts used are either Amel sourced new parts, or high quality well recognised parts. For example, Calpeda and Marco pumps.
By request there is a detailed list of work done over the two years, a list of key system spares and a complete parts inventory spreadsheet, with the location of where these parts are stored.

The boat is currently in Guatemala, and will be heading to the West Indies in Late November 2022.

Specification

In the vendors own words...

Engine:

Yanmar 110Hp unit. 7JHTE. She has circa 5400 hours on her. I change oil, filters and impeller every 100 hours. This has just been done in August 2022.
The engine had a major service in Grenada , by palm tree Engineering, the main Yanmar agent down here in may 2020. In this service we removed and cleaned the intercoolers, changed the engine mounts, replaced all the fan belts, oils, fuel and oil filters (including Racors) .
In addition the diesel tank was opened up and cleaned out, although it was very clean, polished the diesel that was in there and replaced the inspection lid gas kits which had perished.
The C drive bearings were replaced in 2020 and there is no oil contamination.
The vendor replaced the engine prop brake unit earlier in 2022, so now the prop no longer spins when sailing, makes the boat much quieter at passage. This is the Amel supplied unit, not a bodge.
Electronics:

The previous owner and I have extensively updated Rascal’s electronics. I have spent two years on board (almost) mainly at anchor in the West Indies. Rascal’s electronics package and genset work faultlessly. The Victron units work seamlessly together, and everything is now Victron, except some Mastervolt units I installed in the nav station 24-12 converters. She is primarily a 230v boat. I removed all 110 systems, except one pair of sockets in the galley, and a small block in the nav area for various electrical tools and a vaccum cleaner. These are  powered off an Victron 24->110 1,200 Amp inverter mounted in the nav area.
All Lithium battery bank 600 Amph of Battleborn batteries, 2020.
Two Victron 3kw Quattro Inverters in Parallel one installed in 2020 the second in June 2022
Two LG 360Kw Solar panels on rear arch (2021)
Two Solbian SR 240+  Panels on Bimini (2021)
Two Victron MPPT controllers for the solar panels
Victron 24/12 battery charger
Victron Cerbus Control unit and panel mounted in galley
Silent Wind Pro Wind generator (2020) with SW MPPT blue tooth control unit
The genset is the original Onan unit, with around 2,900 hours and works faultlessly. She had a major service in Grenada by palm tree engineering, and more recently I changed the oils, impeller, anode and filters in Antigua in June 2022 before setting off on a 1700 mile solo paasage.
The Yanmar has a 175amp charger with associated Lithium control units in the engine bay.
Nav Equipment:

I have updated a lot here, but the key points are ; its all predominantly Raymarine, NMEA 2k backbone throughout Rascal. The log is the only key system that drives me crazy. I have to dive it every few weeks to make sure it works. I should replace with a sonic unit. I update the maps and raymarine software on a very regular basis. Both MFD’s run Navionics cards, and these will be left behind.
5 new Raymarine i70s head units (2021)
2 new Raymarine i70 autohelm units (2021)
New Axiom 9 MFD in Nav station (2021)
New Raymarine Quantum 2 Radar (2021)
Raymarine Axiom pro 12 MFD at helm station
Echopilot 2D FLS froward looking sonar (2021)
Digital Yacht AIT5000 Class B+ Transponder
Raymarine LM2 Autopilot RAM (two new units, one as spare)
New Raymarine VHFincluding remote wireless handset at helm
There is a SSBN unit, which I have never used, I don’t know how.
Two Iridium Go units, both with SIM cards.
Yb3i tracker, I will move the account to new owner.
Galley:

I have updated and improved (for me) the galley extensively. I had made Corian tops that fit over the existing galley tops. Makes food prep a lot easier and can be removed at passage if needed, but I do not. They fit perfectly. The washing machine was replaced in Martinique earlier this year by Amel. The new machine is very fussy over the quality of power. So at anchor she works fine off the inverters or genset, BUT in harbour unless the shore power is 220-230v and 50hz, she will not work! The good thing is she is very efficient on water usage, whereas the old unit was not great. She also uses less power.
I have removed the gas stove, primarily safety ( I had a bad experience many years ago) so Rascal is Gas free, except the BBQ on the stern rail.
Finally Rascal has a unique sink setup. Instead of draining into the grey bilge, the sink has a small bilge sump in the galley flow, and a separate pump mounted in the engine bay. Some hate this setup, and for sure it is not perfect. But I have loved it. Yes you do have extra systems to maintain, and clean, but the main grey bilge stays a little cleaner. I do clean both every 6 months regardless.
New GN Espace Induction Hob and oven (2022). This unit is very power hungry. It is one of the main reasons I installed two Quattros in parallel. I can now run both the hob and oven off the inverters and batteries. But this is a huge power drain on the batteries. So normally I would run the genset if I was using both.
New Sage Convection and air fryer (2022)
New washing machine in original position (2022)
Fridgoboat MS130RD and Capri 50 compressor in main galley, fitted in 2021
All new Corian Galley tops, custom built to fit on top of existing galley units.
Dishwasher space re purposed to be food storage, matching corian
Fidge and freezers in main salon area have been rebuilt with new highly efficient insulation and all new Fridgoboat compressors (Capri’s)
Sails:

Long story here, if anyone is interested. However, all sails are less than two years old. Main and mizzen have yet to be bent on.
•    Q Sails Hyrdanet Genoa (2021)
•    Doyle balloners (matching original Amel colours and cut, but slightly heavier fabric) . Both new in 2021 and both used. The mizzen Balloner is in an ATN sock for ease of hoist and drop. Works brilliantly and I can do this solo without any drama. The main balloner hoists fine in the Amel system and works as should.
•    Q sails new Main and Mizzen. Not yet used, and I am not 100% sure of the fabric, other than it is not hydranet. The original North sails are ok, but I will bend the new sails on when I get back to the boat and ensure they fit and work. They are Q sails, and who knows.
•    New Precision Code Zero, plain white with Amel logo printed. In an ATN sock. This sail is brand new, finished in July 2022,and have not hoisted or popped this kite yet.
Rigging:
All rigging was replaced in 2019 by the previous owner with ACMO wires, except the forestay. I replaced the forestay in 2020.
Running rigging: I have replaced all lines except main and genoa halyards. All replacements have been done with top of the line rigging, and with the correct sizes as per the Amel specifications.
I have added one new control mechanism. It is now possible to trim the Mizzen car from the cockpit. This means I never have to leave the cockpit to trim any sails when at sea. An important consideration, especially on long solo passages.
Sail controls systems:

I have been sailing Rascal Solo for most of the two years I have lived on board. Ensuring that I can hoist and drop sails is a key issue for me, so I have invested heavily in ensuring this is never at risk for me. The systems work faultlessly and when not in used are protected by custom built Sunbrella covers which protect from the sun and also rain.
Amel in Martinique rebuilt the genoa furler in March 2022. They also serviced the Genoa swivel. The furler looks like new, and they commented that the gears looked as new. However, just in case there is on board a brand new machined set of Genoa gears I had made in 2022.
The main outhaul and gear box are both brand new units from Amel, installed in June 2022. The original motor and gearbox have been reconditioned and are on board as spares.
Also on board is a brand new motor and gearbox which could be used for either the outhaul or main furler. In essence there are two new motors and gearboxes on board, one being used and one stored as a spare.
The mizzen is working fine and gets used a lot.
Down below:

I have replaced all the original upholstery in the aft and forward cabin with faux leather which looks amazing. The main salon was done by a prior owner and looks immaculate.
The aft mattress was replaced memory foam in 2020 and is super comfortable, but a new owner may wish to replace anyway.
The Salon floors were revarnished in 2022 and look new.
I have been super dilgent in cleaning and maintaining the woodwork down below, there are few marks or scratches.
All the aircon units work well. The Aft unit is brand new Clima compact 9 with a new digital control unit in the aft head.
The heads were all stripped down and I replaced all the nasty stuff. Both are electric and the aft head unit has a new macerator (2021). Both are setup for freshwater flushing to prevent smells etc. However they can be switched back to raw water very easily. I designed and built the system so that switching across involves turning of two vales and one electoral rocker switch for each head. I usually test this one a month to ensure that the raw water head pumps still work (they do), but 99% of the heads are fresh. Both have black water tanks which I have not had any issue with and the main stick cocks rotate very easily, I do this each month, just to ensure that they are not sticking.
The water maker works well, and I use this a lot. I replaced the membranes with new ones in 2021 and I change the raw water filters every 6 months. I am very careful with this unit, I have made some efficiency improvements, but have  removed these as they “over complicate “the system.  Happy to discuss.
Other areas:
•    Dingy is just over a year old, it is a Highfield Classic 290 Dingy with Sunbrella (Burgundy) chaps
•    Suzuki 15Hp motor, 2021
•    Bimini was originally built in 2021 in Antigua. It is Burgundy Sunbrella. It is semi permanent and taller than the original Amel unit. I can stand underneath at the helm station. It has netting and clear panels for the sides are aft sections so you can be totally enclosed when the weather is inclement. The side panels can roll up, so its your choice as to how much protection you might like. At passage I tend to just use the net panels unless the weather looks grim. But you have the choice.
•    The cockpit area has fully fitted seat cushions and also some throw cushions to maek it comfortable. I have just had made a small table that clips over the helm chair. I seldom use the main table. Its painful to use.
•    The mizzen desk has sunbrella cisnions/ mats that can cover the entire area.
•    The mizzen area also has a sunbrella awning that spans the entire area, and is tall enough to walk under, or hang washing. It is a proper awning, not a tent. Yes is a pain to erect and bring down, but it works a treat. This is made from Toast sunbrella, and was made in early 2022.
•    Bowthruster internals were all replaced in 2021 after a major failure internally. When re-installing I used the new Silicone BT seals for the hull. Works very well and no leaks. On board are numerous BT spares, including a number of spare props, and also a complete set of internal BT gears and bearings, see parts list.
•    Anchor is a 55kg mantus, and it is brilliant. I have dragged once in two years, just under 50 knots in Utila harbour which has terrible holding. I dragged two meters , I dive the anchor most days to check, which how I know. The anchor reset itself and the anchor alarm never went off. I have various snubber configurations depending on how long I am staying, but I usually use a Mantus bridle.
•    Dive compressor. I am a keen (obsessive) diver, so Rascal is fully equipped for diving. I will remove the four dove tanks, but the compressor stays. The compressor was fitted in Martinique in 2022, it is a Coltri MCH EM 6 ST and will fill a tank in about 20mins. The fill whip is long so the tanks can be filled when on the rail. You can run this off the two inverters, but suggest running the genset.
•    Solar arch was added in Antigua in 2021, custom stainless frame. Also dingy hoist for when at anchor.
•    I will leave Rascal with all the tools on board, I had to re-equip her so the tools are all new. Some were custom bulit for Rascal, for example the outhaul gearbox removal tool , an essential !!
•    Safety: She has two EPIRBS. Numerous fire extinguishers (serviced early 2021) and  a Viking 6/8 person liferaft, which needs a service as of Sept 2022. I also have on board a purpose built Jordan Series drogue all dyneema lines with 147 cones and chain.
•    I had the deck lines repainted in 2021. I did not paint the deck itself. Just the lines
•    The engine bay hatch was reconditioned in 2021 remove corrosion bulges from the hydraulic stays, which themselves were replaced at the same time.
