OWNERS COMMENTS

The Bangor S Class "Stealaway" was the first of twenty two boats built to this design by Robert Slater. The robustly constructed carvel hull planked in 7/8th inch mahogany on sawn oak frames was built at his Shipyard Company yard in Bangor, Northern Ireland. Launched in 1947, Dr J S Dunham - her first owner, completed an enjoyable and successful 500 mile cruise in the Western Isles of Scotland. The first of many cruises in those challenging waters.
In 2000 her present owners were looking for a wooden boat that they could enjoy in their retirement. With her easily managed cutter rig "Stealaway" has proved to be a safe and comfortable boat in all conditions. Her owners have cruised the East Coast, day sailed locally in the Blackwater and raced with the other classics during Mersea Regatta Week and won a trophy or two.
Please go to the owners website to see further construction and historical details.
Note, her last survey was in November 2010. She is wintered ashore under cover. Her topsides and brightwork were last recoated in May 2016. Her engine has been serviced Spring 2017.
