DESCRIPTION

Designed by Harwood Ives and introduced in 1980, the Hans Christian 33 is the smallest in the family of sturdy double-enders offered by Hans Christian Yachts. Like all boats from the Hans Christian line of that era, the HC 33 is a heavy displacement double-ender, solid and seaworthy. She oozes the traditional feel with extensive use of teak and brass inside and out. There was only 155 built between 1980 and 1987.

At first glance you'll notice the springy sheerline, large bowsprint and a cutter rig that's become a favorite among blue water aficionados. Overhangs are quite moderate making for a long LWL for her size and a good hull speed. Below the waterline is a full keel with an aggressively shaped forefoot cutaway and a large rudder that's hung at the very aft extremity of the boat. Compared to previous Hans Christian boats, the turn of the bilge has been tightened up and the HC 33 carries more shoulder in the underwater sections which has resulted in more form stability (righting effort).

This ketch rigged Hans Christian 33 Traditional has a conventional deck layout, with primary winches within reach of the helm, most sail controls are led aft to the cockpit to accommodate short or single handed sailing. The Companionway access is at the center of the helm. The interior has the head most forward, next to the port side is the double Pullman bunk, the dinette, and the galley. Starboard there is the settee, the chart table has been relocated to the rear quarter berth area.

This vessel is equipped for long distant sailing/cruising, she is well equipped with electronics for a vessel of this age. She comes with an 9' Aqua Pro SLR RIB dingy and an 3.5 hp Esca motor. She has had 4 new batteries installed in 2018 and has had the Yanmar, 37 hp, 3 cylinder, inboard diesel engine that was serviced in 2018, the engine starter was also re-built this season.

Recently this vessel has been used as a live aboard in Eastern Ontario. There are two surveys available from May 2013 and most recently July 2018. The owner has recently died, the family is addressing some of the mechanical and cosmetic shortcomings. They would like to pass this robust blue water sailing vessel along to a new owner that would give this vessel the affection and attention it truly deserves.
