A rare opportunity to acquire some powerboat history, a 1971 Cowes Torquay race Fairey Huntsman 31. Since then she has been painstakingly restored by a life-long marine engineer representing exceptional value-for-money due to provenance and usable condition.
In time for the 1971 race, Fairey Marine supplied a Huntsman 31 hull to East Kent Marine who completed the fit-out building a superstructure and racing it with number 675 and the name Tiger Shark. Subsequently Les Goodall, accredited Sabre Marine and Perkins Marine engine dealer for Kent, acquired the boat and built, with great attention to detail, a more conventional superstructure. Before and after pictures are on page 95 of Charles Lawrence’s book ‘Fairey Marine’ second edition ISBN.
Admirers of the Fairey Marine marque know that the Huntsman 31 was the personal brainchild of Alan Burnard, designer of the iconic Huntsman 28 and Swordsman 33. Taking lessons from both boats admirers will know that the 31 is a very comfortable boat with its softer and drier ride.
This Fairey Huntsman 31 benefits from a very thorough restoration with careful attention to detail.
The cabin of Huntsman 31 Lady B has round-table seating, carpeted floor and moving aft, an efficient galley, hot water through a calorifier using engine heat plus diesel hot-air heating. There is good headroom throughout and a sink, twin burner and oven in the galley to port. To starboard there is a settee. All seating fabric and curtains are immaculate. Further aft, on the port side is the marine heads with a traditional sea-toilet.
Steps lead up to the command console with two seats and full instrumentation, radar, GPS, plotter and radio. Three more steps lead up a very safe seating area with its gated enclosure which is perfect for dogs and/or small children. Underneath that enclosure is the engine-room with its easily accessible Sabre 180 diesel turbo-charged engines driving through Twin-Disc Vee drives to four-bladed counter-rotating propellers.
Further aft is access to the stop-cocks and the newer fuel tanks.
A comprehensive history file comes with the boat with many detailed notes and purchase invoices.
Now for sale after a summer's use by the son of Les Goodall who did the renovation. A Survey from March 2019 is available - the 4 points raised were understandable eg age of flexible gas pipe.
In the first instance, please contact the Broker who has looked at this boat in detail in the marina at Whitby and has restored one of the other famous ex-race Huntsman 31s.
