Two new lifeboat stations to be opened next year
It has been announced that two new lifeboat stations are due to open next year, for a 12 month trial period.
The new stations will be located in Leverburgh (Scotland) and Lough Ree (Ireland).
The decision was made by the RNLI’s Coast Review Team – a group that assess what role the RNLI should play within maritime life.
RNLI inspector of Scotland, Paul Jennings, has confirmed: ‘We have been looking at this idea for some time. This decision is about us providing a level of support to an exposed and isolated community where the casualty potential warrants the establishment’.
An all-weather Mersey class lifeboat will soon be stationed in Leverburgh and a B class insure lifeboat will be stationed in Lough.
