New standards added to certification programme by NMMA
The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) have added two new standards to its boat and yacht certification programme. These new standards cover gasoline and propane detection systems along with galvanic isolators, and will be first applied to model year 2012 boats.
NMMA Certified boats currently have 47 categories of standards, which meet the standards set by the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) and US Coast Guard (USCG). Fifteen new standards have been set since model year 2007.
Boat manufacturers must adhere to the particular standards set by the USCG, ABYC and the NMMA to become certified. The categories may vary according to boat type and size.
