Fire strikes

An investigation is taking place regarding the fires that took place at Ponsharden near Penryn. The fire fighters were sent to the boatyard at approximately 3am, and initial reports suggested people may have still been trapped onboard at least one of the two boats.

The fire fighters worked alongside police, ambulance services and Falmouth Coastguard’s cliff rescue team to complete the search until everyone was found.

It took four fire fighters to take out the blaze, and at one stage keep under control the risk of gas cylinders being set alight.

The fire service have since pointed out their concerns that people living in boats and other types of mobile homes may not have the necessary knowledge on fire safety and smoke detection.
