The Round Britain and Ireland race has been commencing nicely, with a vast majority of competitors having reached the remotest corner of the North Sea, leaving the baron coastline of northeast Scotland as the nearest landfall.
Race leader Groupama managed to enter a fresher north easterly breeze, opening up an 18 mile lead on rivals Telefónica Azul.
The wind speed is due to increase in strength, reaching up to 25 knots. It is clear that the contestants will be kept on their toes this year.
