Changes to the Round Britain and Ireland Race
This year’s round Britain and Ireland race is to change course due to the forecasted weather conditions. The race is to take place, now anti-clockwise around Britain and Ireland on Thursday 26th August.
The beginning of the race shall remain at the Royal Yacht Squadron line to the east at 1400.
Commodore, Andrew McIrvine, explains it is out of consideration for competitors that this be done. The RORC weather advisor Mike Broughton, believes there will be wind speeds of at least 40, possibly 50 knots on the nose causing potential damage. Which the revised route will avoid with far more sheltering opportunities, as there will be several ports that boats can go into should they wish.
