| Description | Gleaners is a proper little ship. She is currently fitted out with one eye on the possibilities of use by divers, but would be equally suitable for a number of alternatives such as liveaboard, training, long-range cruising and many more. She has had a lot of TLC over the last few years to the hull and interior, and with a bit more finishing down below would be a very comfortable platform for a multitude of uses.

| Owner's Comments | Commissioned by John, William and James Smith and Alexander Souter, GLEANERS was built by Forbes of Sandhaven in 1934. In 1948 she was bought by John Sutherland and Duncan Roderick Bremner, and in 1960 by Margaret Swanson whose husband Robert was the skipper. GLEANERS ceased fishing in September 1975 and was bought by James Oay of Thrumster by Wick and taken south. She was owned by David Carson and kept in Belfast whilst undergoing a complete deck replacement at Harland and Woolf.
In 2004, she moved to Carrickfergus for an internal refit and new deck then operated as a live-aboard dive charter vessel between 2004-2006 out of Londonderry. The current owner bought her in August 2006 and moved her to the Isle of Man, firstly Peel then Ramsey for an out of the water hull restoration. She also received a gearbox overhaul and drive shaft refurbishment. She has Gardner well maintained engine. This work was undertaken by BKW Marine and the shipwright was Dave Bignall. The refurbishment was completed between December 2006 and the end of March 2007. GLEANERS was re-launched after a repaint.
GLEANERS was returned to her new permanent home berth on the South Coast UK during August 2007 by Peter Best, a Marine Surveyor working on the Isle of Man. Peter also undertakes deliveries. Now she is at her new home port where the current owner is close to completeing an interior refit. She is a National Historic Ships Registered Vessel. She is fully equipped with full Ocean going safety equipment and the usual instrumentation for a modern motor Trawler. The current owner is forced to reluctantly sell her due to personal circumstances. |
